HPUD President/Chief Executive Officer
Since 2000, Darren Cardwell has successfully lead HPUD as the District has embarked on an aggressive capital improvement plan to reduce and eliminate sewer system overflows and to decrease violations at HPUD's wastewater treatment plant. The District also constructed a new water treatment plant on Norris Lake and updated the Melton Hill Water Treatment Plant increasing capacity to serve the residents of North Knox County along with parts of Anderson and Union Counties. The District has also replaced well over 75 miles of (2) inch galvanized water lines throughout the District's 145 square mile service are that was established in 1954.
Darren is a Licensed Professional Engineer with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He is also certified as a Water Distribution Operator and Wastewater Collection System Operator by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. He is a graduate of the American Water Works Association Executive Development Program and the Water Environment Federation Management Development Program.
HPUD serves over 28,800 water customers and over 22,000 sewer customers and is ranked as Tennessee's fourth (4th) largest water utility district combined with the second largest wastewater system.
