Call 811 Before You Dig

Just about anywhere you dig there could be buried utilities. Damage to underground utilities can occur when doing typical home improvement projects that require digging such as installing a fence, mailbox post or deck. Tennessee law requires homeowners and contractors to call TN811 at least 72 hours before digging begins.

Know the Tolerance Zone

Dig carefully around the marks avoiding the utility tolerance zone. No mechanical excavating can take place within 24-inches on either side of the marked location of the underground pipe.

Utilities are only responsible for marking primary water and wastewater mains. All customer-owned buried lines such as water lines, irrigation systems, sewer laterals, or any other customer-owned lines will not be marked.
